Abuse of Corpse Charges Brought Against Keizer ManTim King Salem-News.comInvestigators believe Leslie Kaltenbach died in her residence at 115 Sandy Drive North on or about April 5th, 2007. She was not reported missing to the Keizer Police Department until April 18th.
(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Police Capt. Jeff Kuhns says they have been actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and death of Leslie Dianne Kaltenbach since April 18th, 2007. Family members of Leslie Kaltenbach contacted the Keizer Police Department on April 18th at 10:50 AM to report her as missing. Police reported that a body recovered April 24th was that of Ms. Kaltenbach. She was supposed to have visited a family member in Oregon City on the night of April 4th, but never arrived. 19-year old Kyle James McGuire, who Kuhns says it a former resident of Keizer, was arrested on October 8th, 2007 at about 11:30 AM. He was incarcerated at the Marion County Correctional Facility on other charges at the time. Kuhns says he has been charged with five crimes; one count of second-degree Abuse of Corpse, three counts of Identity Theft, and one count of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card as they relate to this investigation. His bail was listed at $55,000. Kuhns says Oregon law defines the crime of abuse of corpse in the second degree if, except as otherwise authorized by law, the person intentionally: (a) Abuses a corpse; or (b) Disinters, removes or carries away a corpse. (2) Abuse of corpse is the second degree is a Class C felony (ORS 166.085).
Ms. Kaltenbach was a divorced mother from Salem who had two teenage children, a son and a daughter. According to reports, she always made visiting with her children a priority – something that had not happened since her disappearance. Her remains were discovered by members of the Marion County Search and Rescue team on April 24th near the 8500 block of Windsor Island Road North. An autopsy was performed by the State of Oregon Medical Examiner’s Office on April 25th. The State Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Leslie Kaltenbach died due to toxic effects of Methamphetamine. Kuhns says Kyle McGuire has been charged with Abuse of Corpse because investigators believe he moved the deceased body from 115 Sandy Drive North to a location near the 8500 block of Windsor Island Road North. "Her body was discovered in a large duffel bag along side a body of water on the east side of a bridge near this location. The discovery of her remains in this condition and at this location was very suspicious to investigators who were tasked to determine her cause of death, and who was responsible for placing her remains at this location." After extensive interviews and follow-up investigation investigators say they were able to identify some individuals Leslie Kaltenbach had associated with prior to her disappearance. Kyle McGuire was one of those subjects, Kuhns said. "He had resided with Leslie Katlenbach just prior to her being reported missing. Additionally, investigators found an Oregon Trail Card that had been issued to Leslie Kaltenbach that was being used by Kyle McGuire at various locations in the Salem-Keizer area. He has been charged accordingly for using an Oregon Trail Card that was not issued to him."
