Police have not yet caught up with the suspects; two white male adults in their late 20's to early 30's.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police are continuing their investigation of the takeover of a coin shop where the owner was tased, handcuffed and had duct tape placed over his eyes and mouth, as robbers spent half an hour cleaning out his shelves.

Capital Coin's Art Van Weerdhuizen carries a gun and says he is always prepared for the worst, but while retrieving a belt buckle from a case, the assailant/robbers were able to take the advantage and soon he was repeatedly tased, then cuffed and subdued.

He spoke about the ordeal that ultimately saw the robbery suspects haul out 150 pounds of expensive collector coins and other items.

Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada said the incident was reported at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday, after a friend of the owner arrived with pizza for lunch, and sensed something was not right at the business on Commercial Street SE.

"The acquaintance became suspicious when he found the doors locked and the windows covered up, so he went to a nearby business and called police," Okada said.

The first suspect in the case is described as a white male adult in his late 20s to early 30s, six-foot two to six-foot three inches tall, weighing 180 pounds. He had a dark complexion with short hair and long sideburns and was wearing a dark hat, dark jacket, black faded pants and sunglasses.

Okada says the second suspect is a white male adult, also in his late 20s to early 30s. This suspect reportedly stands between six-foot five and six-foot seven inches tall. He was described as weighing 200 pounds with short hair and long sideburns. He was dressed in a similar fashion to the first suspect.

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a red or maroon colored SUV or minivan.

Okada hopes that anybody with information on the case will call Salem Police Detective Jamie Vasas at 503-588-6050, extension 7153.
