Afghanistan War Protest in Eugene Saturday

The mobile drum ensemble Samba Ja will close the event and lead a peace march around downtown.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Lane County residents are taking action to stop the Afghanistan war Saturday 17 October at noon. There will be an Afghanistan peace rally at the old Federal Bldg., 7th and Pearl in Eugene.

Michael Carrigan, Peace Organizer with the Community Alliance of Lane County, says the theme of the rally is: “Stop the killing: War will not Bring Peace in Afghanistan.”

The speakers will be Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy, University of Oregon Professor and Pakistan expert Anita Weiss, Rev. Dan Bryant and Jim Schmidt of Veterans for Peace.

The mobile drum ensemble Samba Ja will close the event and lead a peace march around downtown.

Sponsors are Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC), Eugene PeaceWorks, Eugene Code Pink, WAND, Peace Caucus of Lane County Democrats, Justice Not War Coalition, and Veterans for Peace.
