Before budget cuts during the Reagan era, patients like Allgood had state facilities to turn to in Oregon that housed and cared for those who are mentally challenged.
(WILSONVILLE) - A spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says their agency is familiar with 19-year old Michael John Allgood who was shot by police in Las Vegas, Nevada after an alleged child abduction attempt Tuesday afternoon at the McCarran Airport.
One incident that is certainly memorable for deputies is the night of December 8th, 2005, when they responded to the Allgood family home in Wilsonville and encountered Michael Allgood, naked and fighting with his mother and father inside their residence. Officials at the scene said he `Appeared out of control."
The deputies say they intervened and announced commands to Michael Allgood to comply. These commands to comply were ignored according to the deputies, and he began to physically attack the two Clackamas County law enforcement officers.
As a result, one of the Deputy Sheriff's on the scene deployed a Tazer. Multiple Tazer shocks were required to subdue the resisting Michael Allgood. Ultimately, the subject became fatigued and personnel were able to handcuff and restrain this person. No serious injuries were reported.
Investigators say it was determined during this encounter with Michael Allgood, and with information provided by the parents of this individual, John and Christine Allgood, that Michael had not been taking his prescribed medication.
Michael Allgood told officers he was extremely hot and that is why he had taken off his clothing. He declared he wanted to go Good Samaritan Hospital, in Portland. Michael was cognizant enough to recognize his mental issues and voluntarily admitted himself into the hospital for observation.
American Medical Response transported him to the hospital for this voluntary committal. No formal police arrest was conducted.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office most recently arrested Michael John Allgood Sunday May 8th 2005 at 2:45 in the afternoon while he was walking through a school parking lot in the City of Wilsonville.
While he was detained, deputies found an outstanding warrant on Allgood from the Washington County Sheriff's Office for Theft 3, and Failure to Appear, existed for the arrest of Allgood. He was arrested and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail without incident.
Michael John Allgood remains in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
