(SALEM) - Salem-area residents were out and about Sunday trying to find some relief from the hot weather. Some sat in shaded areas of Bush’s Pasture Park, while some played in the cool waters of the Willamette River at Wallace Marine Park.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol was out in force making sure the river stayed safe. Others chose to find a nice air conditioned place like the Riverfront Carousel, malls, and ice cream parlors. The movie theaters were also popular destinations Sunday. Some parents took their kids to the Wall of Water fountain, located across Court Street from the Capitol for a little wet fun. The Waite Fountain, located in Wilson Park, is also operating this summer. Both run between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM daily now through Labor Day.
In the interest of public safety, the Capitol Fountain, located at the north end of the Capitol Mall, will not operate this summer. Seems the only person not able to escape the recent heat wave is the golden pioneer perched atop the Capitol. The weather in the Salem-area is expected to remain pleasant this week.
