Amtrak Train Bound For Eugene Hits Car, Four Killed

The Amtrak Cascades Train #507 was scheduled for a stop in Salem.

(CASTLE ROCK, Wa.) - An Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle bound for Eugene struck a car crossing the tracks from a private road Monday afternoon, all four in the car were killed.

The train, was scheduled to make stops in Portland, Salem, and Albany before reaching Eugene.

None of the 123 passengers onboard the train were injured in the incident.

Police say the train was traveling anywhere from 40 to 79 mph, and it took about a half a mile to get the train stopped.

The crossing is marked only by a stop sign.

It is not clear when, or if the train will get back underway.

Killed were an adult woman driver, a 17-year-old woman, and an 18 and 19-year-old men.
