(SALEM) - Oregon State Police announced their new Sex OFfender Website on June 29th. Since the announcement, OSP says significant public interest has been expressed about the site's first week of operation.
According to the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Website Project Manager, the website received approximately 3.5 million "hits" during the first week. For purposes of this release, a "hit" occurs when any one person views any single page on the website.
This should not be confused with the actual number of people logging on to the website.
The new Oregon State Police Sex Offender website can be accessed at www.sexoffenders.oregon.gov.
A direct link is available on the front page of the Oregon State Police website at www.oregon.gov/OSP under ‘Most Popular Sites' at the link titled "Sex Offender Inquiry System".
While the state of Oregon is just announcing their new program, other law enforcement agencies in Oregon like Marion and Polk Counties have been making much of the information available on the websites for years. Residents should remember that the new OSP site is not the only place with sex offender information.
