Salem's special hazardous materials team joined other crews responding to the leak.
(SALEM) - Salem firefighters were called out to an early Monday morning ammonia leak at the Deluxe Ice Cream company at 19th and State St in Salem.
Fire Spokesman Joe Parrott says crews rolled out at 5:48 AM to handle the leaking ammonia that is used as the coolant in the ice cream company's refrigeration system.
The leak was isolated to a relief valve according to Parrott. The leak was stopped at about 6:30 AM.
Parrott says that in addition to the regular fire crews, the department's hazardous materials response team was also called to the scene.
One person was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
