After more than 24-hours, two small boys missing the the woods near a family homestead are located.
(OLNEY) - Two small boys missing in rural Clatsop County have been found alive. They were located by a Coast Guard helicopter crew that responded to the area to aid in the search.
Ethan and Atticus Martin, ages 4 and 5, were camping with their parents and brother at an old family homestead in the rural community of Olney when they became missing.
The boys disappeared into the woods around 10:30 AM Monday as their parents, Christopher and Dawn Martin, were packing up to leave.
The boys were dressed in white t-shirts, light-colored shorts and sandals. They were accompanied by their family dog, a 10-month-old black Labrador retriever.
Searchers responded in force to the area after the boys wandered off while camping at an old family home.
The family, from the Portland area, was wrapping up the trip when the boys disappeared and by 2:00 PM Monday they called police to aid in the search.
The home, is located on Lillenas Road off Oregon Highway 202, about 11 miles from Astoria.
On Monday, 45 people, including four trained search dogs, looked for the boys in the dense woods surrounding the homestead. A helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria assisted. Volunteer firefighters from Olney-Walluski, Knappa and Lewis and Clark fire departments and personnel from the Oregon Department of Forestry participated in the search.
Andrea Kennet with the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office says they were been flooded with offers of help from people who wanted to help locate the missing kids.
