Willamette Professor Chairs National Marketing Group Board

(SALEM, Oregon) - Debra J. Ringold, professor of marketing at Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management, has been named the chairperson of the board of directors for the American Marketing Association.

The 38,000-member association is the nation’s premier organization for marketing professionals. Ringold has been a member of the board since 2000.

“I am honored to serve the practitioners and academics that constitute the marketing profession,” Ringold said. “I admire those marketers whose commitment to excellence benefits consumers. The American Marketing Association contributes to marketers, marketers contribute to organizations and organizations serve society.”

Ringold teaches courses in multiple marketing issues, including public policy, research, communications, and marketing in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Her research specialty is public policy and marketing, including how the regulation of commercial activity affects consumer behavior, and her work has appeared in numerous major marketing journals. This year, she begins a three-year term as associate editor of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.

Ringold was named Willamette University’s Administrator of the Year in 2005. Her other honors include: Thomas C. Kinnear Journal of Public Policy & Marketing award for outstanding research, 2004; United Methodist Award for Exemplary Teaching and Community Service, 2002; and Jerry E. Hudson Distinguished Teaching Award, 1997.
