Police say Martin Gibbons of Salem couldn’t tell them why he was traveling so fast.
(SPRINGFIELD, Vermont) - A Salem man, with an apparent heavy lead foot, was caught and arrested this weekend for going 141 miles an hour on I-91 in Springfield, Vermont.
Vermont State Police spokesman Sergeant John Flannigan said Trooper Chris McCrillis was conducting speed enforcement on I-91 at 8:00 AM Saturday when he clocked a 2006 Hyundai Sonata traveling north at 141 miles an hour.
Trooper McCrillis was able to get the driver, 46-year-old Martin Gibbons of Salem pulled over safely.
Flannigan says Gibbons had rented the car and said he was on his way to Barre, but could not provide a satisfactory reason for driving so fast.
Gibbons was charged with careless and negligent driving and processed at the Rockingham barracks.
Gibbons was then taken to the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield for lack of $1,500 bail.
