(CLACKAMAS) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Motor Traffic Enforcement Unit recently won several national awards from the National Sheriffs' Association -- and an additional national award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
On July 5th, 2006, the International Association of Chiefs of Police recognized the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Program as first among all sheriff's offices of similar size in the United States.
This award -- which recognizes the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Motor Unit as the nation's best -- will be formally presented at the International Conference in Boston, MA on October 17th, 2006.
And on May 25th, the National Sheriffs' Association awarded the Traffic Enforcement Safety Unit Award to the Clackamas County Sheriffs Motor Traffic Enforcement Unit -- honoring their work on life-saving traffic-enforcement programs. The award recognizes traffic-enforcement units that adopt cutting-edge traffic-safety programs.
The Sheriffs' Association evaluated each participating agency's office policy, training, public information and education, enforcement activity and effectiveness in determining the winner.
The Traffic Enforcement Safety Unit Award was presented to the Clackamas County Motor Traffic Enforcement Unit at the National Sheriffs Office Annual Conference in Orlando on June 18th. Present as recipients were: Lieutenant Barb Waggoner (Retired), Sergeant John Naccarato, Deputy Mike Zacher, Deputy Jodi Westerman, Deputy Adam Phillips, Deputy Brian Jensen, and Deputy Robby Nashif.
Stated during the award presentation: "The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office operates a traffic safety unit that has helped set the standard by which traffic safety efforts of county sheriffs nationwide are measured."
In addition, the National Sheriffs' Association awarded the Clackamas County Sheriffs' Motor Traffic Enforcement Unit the Technology Award for its use of leading-edge technology in traffic safety and enforcement. The Unit was also awarded the Speed Awareness Award.
The Clackamas County Sheriffs' Motor Traffic Enforcement Unit was also the recipient of two awards from the Traffic Safety Industry: Decatur Electronics -- a manufacturer of speed measurement devices and traffic safety equipment -- gave the unit a Speed Enforcement Award and a Technology Award.
