(SALEM) - Colonel Mark Bontrager (USAF Retired) joined the Paul Evans for Oregon Senate campaign this weekend for door-to-door canvassing, meeting voters throughout the community, and participating in a "friend-raiser" in Independence.
"I flew out this weekend to help Paul campaign for the Oregon Senate. He was a good officer and he'll be a solid legislator," Bontrager explained to a voter while canvassing. "Paul told me straight up, I want to go home and serve my community. He was true to his word. I like it when someone makes a decision and sticks to it. We need more people like him."
Mark Bontrager was the seventh current or former military member to visit Oregon Senate District #10 in support of the Paul Evans for Oregon Senate campaign. These veterans include: Don Wahonick (Lieutenant Colonel, USAF), Eric Firkin (Major, USAF Retired), Jayson Murgurtio (Captain, USAF Retired), Jim Rassmann (Captain, USA), Max Cleland (Captain, USA Retired), and Eric Larsen (USAF, Staff Sergeant). There are several more veterans scheduled to participate in the "Leadership for a Change Tour" before the November 7th, 2006 election.
"Having Mark and the rest of the guys be a part of this campaign makes the whole thing real. These people taught me duty, honor, and leadership. They helped me become who I am. I respect them, trust them, and love them," Evans explained.
