When it comes to supporting coverage of US troops overseas, McDonald's joins other organizations that have stepped up to the plate.
(SALEM) - Salem's chain of McDonald's Restaurants have provided a generous donation toward Tim King's upcoming assignment in Afghanistan where he will be embedded with the 41st Combat Brigade of the Oregon National Guard.
Seaman-Pollard Family Restaurants Inc. provided $1,100, which goes a long way toward offsetting the costly several week trip that Photojournalist/Reporter Tim King will take later this month.
A former U.S. Marine, Tim will bring Salem-News.com visitors frequent streaming video news reports from Afghanistan's war theatre. People will be able to see their friends, colleagues and loved ones doing what their nation has called upon them to do.
King says they are already heroes, Oregon National Guard soldiers have an exemplary record in combat and in peacetime, "But they deserve to be seen training Afghan soldiers, going on patrols, and just going through their everyday lives in a country very far from home."

One of Salem's most courageous families, David and Arlene Banks, provided $100 toward Tim's trip.
Another pair of Salem heroes, Scott Smith and Margaret Sanner, provided funds to assist with Tim's Afghanistan trip.
