27-year-old Enrique Aguero pulled the truck into the grass and fled on foot.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Just after 6:30 this morning, Deputies received a call that a blue 1990 Nissan pick-up had been stolen from 4104 46th Ave NE in Salem. The owner, 29-year-old Gilbert Gurrero, was calling from his cell phone reporting that he was following the truck.
He followed the truck through various streets in northeast Salem and eventually onto northbound I-5. A Salem Police patrol caught up to the truck just south of Keene Rd on I-5 and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the truck, later identified as 27-year-old Enrique Aguero, pulled the truck onto the east shoulder of I-5 into the grass and fled on foot east from the truck into a field.
As more police units arrived a perimeter was set up to contain the man.
Approximately 15-minutes after running from the car, Aguero was taken into custody near some nearby farm buildings.
Aguero is reportedly a transient living in the Salem area. After his capture, it was discovered that he had an outstanding statewide felony warrant for a parole violation.
He will be transported to the Marion County Jail where he will be booked on the charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Attempt to Elude a Police Officer. He will also be cited for Driving While Suspended.
