Brian Downer is on lifetime probation from Arizona for multiple sexual assault convictions.
(CORVALLIS) - A registered sex offender, in the middle of committing another sexual crime, was caught in the act by Corvallis Police.
Corvallis police detectives say a 20-year-old woman was walking alone on NW 23rd Street just before 8:00 AM Saturday when a man approached her and tried to start a conversation.
The man, who police identified as 42-year-old Brian Downer, then knocked the woman down and tried to rape her.
Fortunately, a man was walking in the area, and heard the scuffle between the two, and called 911.
Downer tried to flee the area, but the witness followed him until police arrived.
As officers arrived, Downer took off in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.
He later crashed into another vehicle, and was taken into custody.
Downer is being held in the Benton County Jail on several charges including Attempted Rape, Attempted Kidnapping, Assault, and Probation Violation.
