(SALEM) - A Salem police officer apprehended a bank-robbery suspect Tuesday morning because he was in the bank when the robbery occurred.

Just after 11:00 AM, Officer Mike Quakenbush was investigating an unrelated fraud complaint at the Wells Fargo Bank at 3245 Market St. NE.

Quakenbush said he was talking to suspects in the fraud case when a bank employee ran up to the office and said the bank had been robbed.

When the suspect got outside he ran, and Quakenbush chased after him, radioing for help.

Quakenbush caught up with the suspect across the street in the Red Lion Hotel parking lot and, with the help of another officer, arrested him..

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Jason William Menges, of Salem.

He was charged with Second-Degree Robbery and is being held at the Marion County jail.
