(SALEM) - The Salem Police Department will hold its 18th Citizen Police Academy beginning January 3rd, 2007.
The classes offer Salem citizens an opportunity to gain insight and understanding of how the department serves the community.
Academy instructors provide a comprehensive look at the various services, resources, policies, procedures, and other integral parts of law enforcement.
And as participants learn about the various aspects of each of the divisions and units in the agency, they also have the opportunity to experience the recreation of "routine and non-routine" scenarios that law enforcement officers face daily.
The majority of classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM with two Saturday sessions.
Applicants must live or work in Salem and be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid driver license; have no felony convictions; or no misdemeanor arrests in the 12 months prior.
The academy is conducted at no cost, except for the participant's time and commitment to attend a minimum of 80% of the classes.
