(SALEM) - The Salem Fire Department is in the clean-up stages after an ammonia leak forced 160 RainSweet and Oregon Cherry Growers employees to evacuate their building's.
The call came in at 8:00 AM at the Rainsweet plant located at 1460 Sunnyview Road NE according to Salem fire spokesman Bill Holmstrom.
Three employees were evaluated by paramedics for respiratory complaints.
None were transported.
Cherriot's provided two buses to house the evacuees while firefighters evaluated the situation.
The cause of the leak was determined to be a properly working relief valve.
The tank where the leak occurred was accidentally overfilled and the relief valve activated reducing the pressure inside the tank.
Evacuated employees were able to return around 9:00 AM.
