(SALEM) - The Department of Defense announced today the death of another Oregon soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Pfc. Brian A. Browning, 20, was a rifleman with Company B, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI).
Brian A. Browning of Astoria, Oregon died Feb. 6th in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire while conducting security operations. The infantryman was killed while conducting guard duty.
Brian Browning was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, out of Fort Drum, N.Y.
Originally from Astoria, Ore., Browning enlisted in the Army in July 2005 and trained at Fort Benning, Ga., to be an infantry Soldier. After completion of basic and advanced individual training, he was assigned to the Commando Brigade.
Pfc. Browning deployed with his unit to Iraq in August 2006.
His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
He is survived by his parents.
