Salem Police Seek Information on Sentenced Sex Offender

(SALEM) - Salem Police are seeking possible additional victims in a sex offender case dating back to 2001.

Police Spokesman Bill Kohlmeyer says officers arrested 30-year old Joshua N. Shewell of Salem for sexual crimes involving a child.

Shewell was arrested in January, and pled guilty in Marion County Circuit Court to two counts of Sex Abuse 1 and one count of Sodomy 1 on February 7th. He was sentenced to 75 months in prison.

Kohlmeyer says the crimes occurred in 2001 when the female victim was 8 or 9 years old. At the time of his arrest Shewell was working as a teacher's aid at the Salem Child Development Center.

He has also volunteered at several area schools in the past, however the victim was not someone he supervised.

Shewell pled guilty to two counts of Sex Abuse I and is currently in custody at Coffee Creek Correctional Center in Wilsonville.
