The grandparents told deputies that Johnny was last seen in his room watching a child's video.
(MILL CITY, Ore. ) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that his deputies are investigating the death of a child who was found in a small pond in Mill City.
Johnny L. Caldera, age 2 years and 11 months, was staying with his grandparents, who are his guardians, on Dogwood Street in Mill City.
At 7:56 PM Thursday evening, deputies were dispatched to the residence when the boy's grandparents found him floating in a small fish pond in their front yard.
The pond is reported to be approximately four feet deep.
Dispatchers gave CPR instructions over the phone until medics arrived and transported Johnny to Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton. Efforts to revive him at the hospital were unsuccessful.
The grandparents told deputies that Johnny was last seen in his room watching a child's video.
About 30 minutes later his grandmother checked on him and discovered he was not in his room. Johnny had apparently let himself out of the house and went to the pond where he was found.
Weddle's Funeral Home in Stayton is handling funeral arrangements.
