The device had the capacity to cause serious injury, fortunately no one was injured and no damage was done to the building structure police said.
(EUGENE) - Eugene Police arrested a 15-year-old Willamette High School sophomore after he allegedly detonated a homemade explosive device in a trash can in the locker bay.
Eugene police say a school resource officer was at the high school at the time of the explosion, and quickly responded to the scene to secure the area while additional officers and the Eugene Metro Explosives Disposal Unit arrived.
In order to ensure that the school and its students were safe, officers and school officials initiated a school lockdown that kept students in their classrooms while the locker bay, hallways, and other common areas were searched for additional devices.
After the school was thoroughly searched and determined to be safe, the lockdown was lifted and the normal class schedule resumed around 1:30 PM, police said.
The suspect was quickly identified by police, and arrested just after 2:00 PM.
