Woman Dies in Head-On Collision Near Woodburn

The female driver of the Dodge Caravan was a resident of Salem.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Monday afternoon when a van crossed the centerline on Highway 99E south of Woodburn near Belle Passi Road and crashed head-on with a truck.

The driver of the 1997 Dodge Caravan, 20-year old Viviana Herra Cuatepotzo of Salem, died at the scene.

Monday at approximately 1:57 PM, the Dodge Caravan driven by the Ms. Cuatepotze, was southbound on Highway 99E near milepost 34 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a northbound 2004 Freightliner box truck driven by 57-year old Boris Bodnar of Vancouver, Washington.

Records indicate that Ms. Cuatepotze did not have a valid driver's license Her next of kin have been notified. She was extricated by Woodburn Fire Department personnel.

Bodnar received minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. No witnesses were located at the scene. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888.

Additional assistance at the scene provided by Marion County Sheriff's Office, Woodburn Police Department, Crisis Chaplaincy Services, and ODOT. Highway 99E was reopened about 5:00 PM.
