Lengthy skid marks attest to the rider’s apparent attempt to regain control as he was eastbound on Trade Street.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police say excessive speed appears to be a factor in the death of a Washington motorcyclist who died Saturday night in downtown Salem.

Investigators say it appears that 19-year old Bragin Mikhail Jr. of Washougal, Washington died on impact just before 11:00 PM.

Lengthy skid marks attest to the rider’s apparent attempt to regain control as he was eastbound on Trade Street, Salem Police say, but the bike left the road just before reaching Church Street.

Mr. Mikhail was thrown from the bike and his body impacted a six-inch square metal pole. Police say the motorcycle continued on for another 80 to 100 feet from where Mr. Mikhail was located.

Police aren’t sure exactly how much time passed before a motorist observed the crash scene and approached the rider. The 911 center was notified by the driver who stated at that point that the cyclist was clearly deceased.

If anyone witnessed this crash, they are asked to call the Salem Police Traffic Unit.
