Albany Fire, Police Investigating Series of Arson Fires

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - The Albany Fire Department is currently working with the Albany Police Department on the investigation of a series of fires that have happened within the past three days.

On Monday, at about 2:00 AM, the Albany Fire Department was called to Cascades West located at 1510 SE Queen where two dumpsters were on fire.

Wednesday morning at 3:33 AM, fire crews were called back to Cascades West where the dumpster had again been ignited.

At 3:51 AM, fire crews were dispatched to 1860 SE Hill, the FISH Clothes Closet, where we found smoke and flames in the rear of the building.

It was determined that there were two fires set, one in the back of the building and one at the front door.

Estimated damage to the building and its contents was approximately $60,000.

At 4:27 AM, fire crews were called to the Skate Park, 1375 SE Sixth Avenue, where there was a port-a-potty on fire.

Some Fire Safety Tips:

• Light any secluded areas around your building

• Lock dumpsters

• Clear any boxes, garbage, etc. from the outside of the building. The individuals starting these fires are using any available items to aid them with lighting these fires.

• Lock outside buildings, such as tool sheds.
