Lunch will be served...FREE!
(SALEM, Ore. ) - The City of Salem's Public Works Department will celebrate its fourth annual Public Works Day at Riverfront Park Thursday, from 10:30 AM until 2:00 PM.
Public Works plays a significant part in our lives every day, and this event is intended to give the community a better understanding of the equipment and systems used to get the work done.
A variety of equipment that city crews use to operate and maintain the city's water, sewer, storm, and transportation systems will be on display.
Along with these "big toys," there will be displays highlighting all aspects and sections of Public Works and other community and City programs, as well as Salem's Riverfront Carousel, AC Gilbert's Discovery Village, and the Willamette Queen.
The event includes lots of activities for children.
Come for lunch and see Claudia, the 29-foot Chinook; watch a demonstration of how large water pipes are repaired; root for your favorite team in a backhoe bowling contest.
Lunch will be served...FREE! Thanks to the generosity of local merchants and businesses, there is no charge for attending.
Sponsors this year include Roth's Market, Albertsons Keizer, Safeway, Deluxe Ice Cream, Franz Family Bakeries, Fred Lea Distributors, Oregon Territory Federal Credit Union, Salem Electric, PGE, Downtown Salem Center, South West Distribution.
Food or cash donations to the Marion-Polk Food Share are encouraged.
