The District Attorney of Fayette County announced the sad news today.
(ATLANTA, Georgia) - After a day of shock, sadness and confusion for thousands, the Fayette County District Attorney took the loss of the Benoit family to a new level today.
It was revealed that the three people were apparently not murdered by an outsider, and that there was no intruder that committed this grievous crime.
Chris Benoit, the world famous champion wrestler, apparently took his own life on Sunday. He was found in his weight room, in the basement, hanged.
His wife Nancy was found in the family room on the second floor. She had been strangled. Authorities say she was murdered Friday. Their son, Daniel, was found smothered in his bed, apparently killed on Saturday morning. Each of the two were found with a Bible lying next to them.
Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."
"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.
There had been at least one request for a restraining order by Nancy against Chris, but it was lifted by a judge when the couple had settled their differences. At this time, no other motions are known to have been in effect.
