The fire apparently was started by a combine.
(JEFFERSON, Ore. ) - Jefferson firefighters, with the assistance of firefighters from Albany and Turner responded to another grass fire south of Jefferson on Shady Bend Rd. located in Linn County at 1:10 PM Thursday afternoon.
The fire apparently was started by a combine.
This is the same area where firefighters battled a four-alarm field fire that ended up burning 60 acres on Tuesday of this week.
According to Fire Chief Don Bemrose, "Luckily today we had a lower temperature, higher humidity, and no wind which kept this fire to only 25 acres".
The newer John-Deere combine was a total loss.
The grass field was cut, but the crop was still on the ground which fueled the fire and was a loss for the farmer.
Firefighters were able to control the fire in 45 minutes. With no fire hydrants in this rural area, water had to be shuttled by water tenders.
No injuries were reported.
