Fire Damages Salem Apartment

The cause of the fire was determined to be a stove that was left on.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Salem Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 1291 Peace Street SE Apartment #8 Saturday just before 1:00 PM.

All four of the occupants were not at home at time of the fire.

Two children and the mother had just left for the store prior to the fire starting.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Battalion Chief Tom Nelson reported smoke coming from this two story apartment building.

Firefighters made entry inside the structure through the east door. The found fire in the kitchen.

They quickly extinguished the fire, saving the apartment and neighboring apartment units.

Firefighters from Ladder Company #4 set up ventilation to remove smoke from the apartment, while ventilation was set up other firefighters evaluated neighboring apartment units for any possible smoke damage to them.

No other apartments were damage due to the firefighters efforts

It took 14 firefighters just 5 minutes to knock down the fire and control the incident.

The fire was contained to the room of origin.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a stove that was left on.

The fire spread to other combustible around the stove.

The dollar loss is estimated at $15,000 ($13,000 Structure & $2,000 Contents).
