(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Jefferson Firefighters were called out to a brush fire at 17650 Wall Lane southeast of Jefferson at 11:41 this morning.
Fire District Spokesperson Elaine Parrott says firefighters from Stayton, Turner, and Scio were called to assist Jefferson firefighters in bringing the flames under control.
She says the fire burned approximately five acres of brush, grass, and blackberry vines of which there was no value.
According to Assistant Chief Jon Zeilman, a natural fire break halted the fire before it went out of control, "once the the wind-driven fire reached the Santiam River, the fire stopped," he said.
The owners of the property, Butch and Tracey Epps, indicated they were burning the day before. The cause of the fire was listed as a rekindle of that fire. There were no injuries reported.
