Weather in Phuket has been bad for the past several days, with thunderstorms and high wind gusts.
(PHUKET, Thailand) - A MD-82 filled with foreign tourists crashed Sunday as it tried to land in pouring rain on the island of Phuket.
Officials said One-Two-Go Airlines flight OG269 split in two and bursting into flames, as it skidded off the runway and crashed into trees. At least 88 people were killed and 42 injured.
The flight was carrying 123 passengers and seven crew members to Phuket - one of Thailand's leading tourist destinations - from Bangkok.
One-Two-Go Airlines is a low-cost airline based in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the domestic subsidiary of Orient Thai Airlines. Its main base is Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok.
