Hatfield is a medical marijuana provider, and allowed a search of his residence.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Three Salem men were arrested Thursday at 8:30 PM for charges related to marijuana sales and possession. One of the three is a legal Medical Marijuana grower and provider, but police say amounts recovered were far in excess of legal limits under Oregon's Medical Marijuana Program.
Salem Police Lt. Jim Anglemier says Salem Drug Activity Response Team detectives and members of the Street Crimes Unit were conducting a drug investigation, when they learned of a medical marijuana provider selling marijuana to a person who was not a legal marijuana patient.
Police say the provider, 31-year old Charles Hatfield who lives in the 5000 block of Lone Oak Road SE in Salem, delivered a small quantity of marijuana. Hatfield was taken into custody without incident, Anglemier said.
"With consent, a search of Hatfield's residence was conducted. Seized was over 6 pounds of marijuana valued at $17,000; 17 grams of psilocybin mushrooms valued at $150; 25 mature and immature marijuana plants; $2600 cash, 4 firearms and marijuana growing equipment.
Anglemier says Hatfield is a medical marijuana provider for two people. That means he is authorized to have 48 ounces of dried marijuana and a combination of mature and immature marijuana plants. Salem Police did not specify whether or not the guns located at the residence have any criminal implications.
Two other people who live at the residence, 24-year old James Strom and 34-year old Kirk Grable, were also taken into custody. All three suspects were arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail on the below listed charges.
