Woman Dies in Crash Near Klamath Falls

Police say they do not know what caused the crash, the investigation is continuing.

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) - A Klamath Falls-area woman died early Monday morning when the car she was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a commercial truck on Highway 97 about three miles north of Klamath Falls.

Police say that at approximately 12:50 AM, a 2005 Honda Civic driven by 56-year old Susan Therese Stewart of Klamath Falls, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 269 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound 2004 Freightliner commercial truck driven by 33-year old Pho Kheng of Fresno, California.

Ms Stewart was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is to be determined.

Kheng was using safety restraints and was not injured. The commercial truck is registered to James Transportation, Inc.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation. The cause is unknown at this time.

Klamath County area police and fire agencies and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 97 was closed about three hours during the investigation.
