Troopers from the Burns worksite are investigating the crash.
(BURNS, Ore.) - A motorcyclist died after striking a deer and being struck by a pickup truck in rural Harney County last night. Police say the crash happened around 7:10 PM, as 46-year old Howard Pries of Bend, was riding his 1985 Honda Goldwing motorcycle eastbound on US 20, about five miles east of Burns.
Police say his bike struck a deer in the roadway. The collision separated Mr. Pries from his motorcycle; he was then struck by a westbound Dodge Dakota pickup which was operated by 42-year old Dawn Salsbery of Stanfield. Neither Ms. Salsbery nor her two passengers were injured.
Harney Emergency Medical Services transported Mr. Pries to Harney District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries about an hour after the crash. His next of kin have been notified of his death. Helmet usage and safety belt information is not yet determined.
Troopers from the Burns worksite are investigating the crash. Harney County Sheriff's Deputies and Hines and Burns-Paiute Police Department officers, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
