(SALEM, Ore.) - A tractor-trailer rig traveling south on Interstate 5 just south of Salem crashed at about 8:30 AM Thursday, temporarily blocking both southbound lanes of the freeway at milepoint 245.
Police say the tractor came to a stop on the shoulder guardrail, with its trailer blocking the outside "slow" lane of I-5. The crash punctured the fuel tank, and approximately 100 gallons of diesel has spilled. Most of the fuel has been contained by responding ODOT crews.
ODOT personnel on scene are flagging southbound traffic through one lane of the crash scene. There will be periodic closures of the freeway in this vicinity while the tractor is removed from the barrier and the trailer is towed away.
ODOT expects the crash to be cleaned up by early Thursday afternoon. Detour routes are being set up.
No further information is available at this time.
