Remains Confirmed as Missing Salem Man

A deerhunter discovered the remains near McCully Mountain Road on October 13th.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Skeletal remains that were discovered on October 13th in a remote area of Linn County have been identified as a missing Salem man. Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says tests have confirmed that remains are those of 37-year old William Carl Mills.

The State Medical Examiner's Office conducted the analysis that confirms the identity of Mr. Mills, who was reported missing to the Salem Police Department on January 27th 2007.

Mr. Mills was identified using dental records. The cause of death is not being released at this time; however the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says detectives and a deputy medical examiner assisting on the case searched the missing person's data base maintained by the National Crime Information Center in Clarksburg Virginia going back two years and discovered a possible match with Mr. Mills.

Detectives then contacted the Salem Police Department, who had the dental records and missing person report on file.

The remains were discovered near McCully Mountain Road on October 13th by a deer hunter, in an area south of Lyons.

Linn County Sheriff's Detectives and members of the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Post conducted an evidence search and recovered the remains, which were then sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Clackamas.
