Luckily some nearby residents witnessed the attack and went to the woman's aid, and held the suspect until police arrived.
(SALEM, Ore. ) - A 37-year-old Salem man was arrested Saturday in connection with a sexual attack on a 22-year-old woman.
Salem police say the incident occurred just before 1:00 AM at the intersection of Liberty and Boone road South. The man, identified as Paul Landingham, dragged the woman into some bushes and attacked her.
Police say the woman was fortunate, some nearby residents witnessed the attack and went to the woman's aid. Police say those neighbors held Landingham until officers arrived.
Landingham was booked into Marion County jail on charges of first-degree rape, fourth-degree assault and strangulation.
The woman was taken to Salem Hospital for treatment and later released.
