The fire erupted when the residents were not home.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Fire crews were called out to 3991 Friar Court SE in Salem at 11:37 this morning after the odor of smoke was detected from a neighboring residence.
Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says the next door neighbor also noted that there was smoke from around windows and the front door.
"When Firefighters arrived they had smoke pouring out of the single family dwelling," Holmstrom said.
"Firefighters discovered fire in the kitchen which they were able to extinguish before it spread throughout the rest of the structure."
Holmstrom says the fire caused $25,0000 in damage and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire according to investigators, was due to the fact that the occupant accidentally turned on the stove by bumping one of the knobs. That caused boxes sitting on the stove to ignite.
