Body Found in Surf Identified as Missing Yachats Man

Police have identified the victim found in the surf near Yachats State Park

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon State Police and Lincoln County Medical Examiner have positively identify a body found Thursday morning in the surf on the south end of Yachats State Park. There is no indication of foul play and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death of 40-year old Gary Raymond Wilson of Yachats.

Yesterday at approximately 10:00 AM a person walking on the beach spotted the body in the surf and reported it to police. Oregon State Police troopers from the Newport Area Command office responded to the scene.

They say there was no identification and the body appeared to have been in the water less than 12 hours.

Later that evening, Oregon State Police were contacted by Lincoln County Sheriff's Office after they received a report of a missing Yachats man.

Follow up investigation with the missing man's mother led to the positive identification.
