(SALEM, Ore.) - A bank robbery suspect was arrested today after a Salem Police officer relayed the man's possible location to Marion County deputies. They were seeking the man who robbed the Maps Credit Union located at 4001 Winema Place NE in Salem, Oregon just before 11:00 AM.
Commander Jason Gates with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says deputies responding to the bank robbery were told the suspect was a heavy set male subject with a blue sweatshirt, blue bandanna, and blue jeans.
They also learned that he was probably driving a blue Ford Probe style vehicle from witnesses who had called dispatch.
"Deputies arrived at the bank, made contact with the business, and began searching the area for the suspect," Gates said.
As this happened, information on the bank robbery, including the suspect and vehicle description, was sent out to area Law Enforcement agencies by dispatch.
Salem Police Sergeant J.R. Miller received that information, and based on prior knowledge of the suspect, was able to develop information on his current whereabouts.
Gates says he relayed the information Miller developed to Salem Police officers and Marion County Sheriff's deputies.
"With the information from Sgt. Miller, Deputy Casey Burnham spotted the suspect walking in the 4800 block of Silverton Road.
The suspect was contacted and taken in custody without incident by several Marion County deputies and Salem Police officers."
Gates says the suspect was carrying an undetermined amount of U.S. currency.
He has been identified as 27-year old Tyler Schilling of Salem, a resident of the Salem area. Schilling was transported to the jail where he was lodged on the charge of robbery.
The Salem F.B.I. office was contacted and has taken over responsibilities for this investigation according to Gates, who said the work between the two agencies brought the situation to a close very quickly and effectively.
