The extrication carried out by firefighters and employees took nearly 20 minutes.
(CANBY, Ore.) - A machine crushed a man's arm in a heavy steel belt roller at Canby Sand and Gravel. Canby firefighters say an employee was involved in a digging and hauling operation. He was cleaning mud off a conveyor when he became entangled in the machine.
Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Gary says firefighters arrived on scene at 11:58 AM. While rescue crews were trying to free the man, paramedic were treating him and consulting with a surgeon.
"With the experience of his co workers and the firefighter they were able to cut the conveyor to relieve some pressure from the mans arm and then set up a series of come-alongs and straps to lift the heavy steel roller off the mans arm."
Gary says the extrication process required 9 firefighters and 3 members of Canby Sand and Gravel.
Together, they were able to free the man's entangled arm from the conveyor.
The extrication took nearly 20 minutes according to Gary, the injured man was entered into the trauma system and taken to OHSU.
