Fatal Traffic Crash - Interstate 84 west of Huntington
(HUNTINGTON, Ore.) - A 13-year old Pasco, Washington girl died and four others were seriously injured Saturday morning in a single vehicle rollover crash westbound Interstate 84 just west of the Huntington exit in eastern Oregon.
Police investigating the crash say early this morning around 6:30 AM, a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by 38-year old Adrian Edwardo Garcia of Pasco, Washington was westbound on Interstate 84 when it lost control on the ice covered roadway and started to slide in a clockwise direction.
The vehicle continued off the right shoulder and rolled, at which time rear passenger 13-year old Jazmin Garcia of Pasco, was ejected. The vehicle came to rest about 50 feet from the highway on its wheels.
Jazmin Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was not using safety retraints.
The driver, Adrian Garcia, was critically injured and transported to Baker City from where he was taken by Air Life to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Police aren't sure if she was wearing safety equipment.
The vehicle's right front passenger, 39-year old Livier Lopez-Garcia of Pasco, was transported by Ontario Ambulance to Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario with serious injuries. She was using safety restraints.
The middle seat passenger 20-year old Stephanie Garcia, also of Pasco, was transported by Ontario Ambulance to Holy Rosary Hospital with serious injuries. Police say she was not using safety restraints.
The vehicle's rear passenger, 7-year old Adrian Edwardo Garcia Jr. of Pasco, was not using safety restraints and was critically injured. He was transported to a Baker City hospital.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Baker City work site and Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Huntington Quick Response, Ontario Ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene.
