Commissioner Sam Brentano says he still has a number of goals he would like to meet.
(SUBLIMITY, Ore.) - Marion County Commissioner Sam Brentano announced today that he has filed to seek re-election. Brentano was appointed as Commissioner in November 2003 and elected in 2004 to a full four-year term.
Commissioner Brentano stated, "I have to admit that I only intended to serve one term. However, there are so many issues that I care about and I want to keep working on them."
Brentano went on to discuss in the next term, we will be making decisions on the following key issues:
· Our Roads - Try to find new ways to fund needed maintenance, keep the Third Bridge project moving, funding for the Woodburn Interchange project, Cordon Road expansion, and get the Cascade-Hwy 22 Project finished.
· Our Jail System – Our jail needs to be brought up to its maximum capacity and expanded in the future to make sure we have real sanctions available to protect our citizens. I want to keep the pressure on the gains we have made fighting our meth epidemic.
· Environmental Services - We will be deciding what to do with all of our solid waste. Should we extend the contract with the garbage burner (Waste to Energy Facility in Brooks). Should the burner be expanded? What will we do with the ash from the burner? We need to continue to find ways to expand recycling and not just be content with our current 57% recycling rate. Even if most counties would view that as spectacular.
· And finally, most importantly, I want to continue working with our Children and Families Commission to find ways to help ensure that the children in our county are safe, fed, and educated.
"Frankly, there is too much still to do to quit now and I have shown I have the experience and knowledge to make positive decisions for the good of Marion County and our citizens," Commissioner Brentano concluded.
