(CANBY, Ore.) - A Grande Ronde-area woman died Friday afternoon when the car she was driving crashed into the side of a semi-trailer pulled by a commercial truck turning across Highway 99E between Canby and Oregon City.
Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation and no enforcement action has been taken. It happened Friday at approximately 3:30 PM.
Police say that according to preliminary investigation, a 1999 Freightliner pulling a 53-foot semi-trailer driven by 71-year old Robert Waller of Oakdale, California, attempted to turn left from a truck lot to go northbound near milepost 17.
As he did, a southbound 2002 Nissan driven by 36-year old Cynthia Trevino-Williams of Grande Ronde, was unable to stop in time as the truck and trailer made the left turn. Her car drove under the semi-trailer near the rear wheels where it became wedged under the trailer.
Cynthia Trevino-Williams was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Waller was not injured.
The OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Assistance at the scene provided by Canby Fire Department, Clackamas Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.
It was raining at the time of the collision but weather does not appear to be a factor, troopers said. Highway 99E was closed for 4 hours during the investigation.
Canby Fire District, Clackamas Fire district, Clackamas County Sherriff, Oregon State Police and Canby Police responded all responded as traffic was closed on 99E both north and south.
