The investigation indicated the tractor had slid off the road, which was slick and covered in six to eight inches of snow, approximately 30 yards down an embankment.
(ALBANY, Ore.) - Linn County deputies are investigating the death of a Eugene man who died yesterday when the tractor he was operating slid over an embankment and crushed him.
Sheriff Tim Mueller says 24-year old Brian Swenson of Eugene was clearing a road to a hydro electric plant near Yukwah Campground, approximately 19 miles east of Sweet Home on Highway 20 when the accident happened.
Mueller says a deputy was sent to check the area at about 7:00 PM after the Sheriff's Office dispatch center receiving a call from one of his co-workers from Falls Creek Hydroelectric, Inc. requesting a welfare check as Brian had not been heard from for most of the day.
Shortly after 8:00 PM the Sheriff's Office received a call from the victim's father, Steve Swenson, who had found his son, deceased, pinned under the tractor, a 1998 John Deere 460.
The investigation indicated the tractor had slid off the road, which was slick and covered in six to eight inches of snow, approximately 30 yards down an embankment.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel transported the deceased, pending further arrangements by Musgrove Funeral Home in Eugene.
