A video featuring Nicholson's most famous acting moments supports Hillary, another unauthorized version tells another story. Are people having too much fun creating campaign videos for YouTube?
(LOS ANGELES) - I admit I see it all with a bit of jealousy. From the perspective of a video producer, life has to be good when it allows time to slice up scenes from Jack Nicholson movies in order to create political endorsements.
At hand are a pair of YouTube videos generating huge viewership, utilizing Jack Nicholson as a spokesman. They endorse each of the political candidates for the Democratic ticket. Hillary's campaign got it all started with the official video which closes with Nicholson saying, "I approve of this message."
This video uses some of Nicholson's most famous lines to underscore the importance of electing Hillary.
But a retort came in the form of another video with similar content and a similar format, but this one doesn't make Hillary look so good. The Obama version takes less flattering lines of Nicholson's, and tells a different story about the First Lady turned Senator - turned Presidential hopeful.
It mostly has to do with who you like, and I believe we can only hope the endorsement from a Hollywood actor won't have too much impact. We tend to like them as politicians in this country.
I have had the fortune or misfortune if you will, of learning how people in other countries feel about Hollywood stars becoming world leaders and influential politicians. It isn't perhaps the idea of it that is bad, more like the frequency.
My biggest problem with the Hillary endorsement is the use of Nicholson from "A Few Good Men." The Marine Corps may be my alma mater but his character as portrayed in that movie addresses the dark side, I think many of us will see it that way, but maybe I am just being oversensitive.
At any rate, you can decide for yourself what you think, the videos are both posted below. The one endorsing Hillary Clinton comes first, courtesy of YouTube.
