(SUTHERLIN, Ore.) - Two Washington men were arrested after approximately 65 pounds of cocaine were found in hidden compartments in their car during a traffic stop Thursday morning.
Police say that about 10:00 AM, August 20th, an OSP senior trooper stopped a 2007 Honda Accord displaying Washington license plates traveling north on 1-5 near milepost 140, for following too close and other hazardous traffic offenses.
"Winston", a DINT drug detection canine with Douglas County Interagency Narcotics Team, assisted Oregon State Police.
Authorities say the seized cocaine has an estimated value of approximately $600,000.
The two individuals arrested are the driver, 25-year old Cristian Escalante-Castaneda, and passenger 28-year old Alfonso Garcia-Castaneda, both from Seattle, Washington. The two men were lodged in Douglas County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine.
The investigation is continuing.
