The goal of the campaign is simple pedestrian safety.
(HUBBARD) - The Hubbard Police Department will be holding a "crosswalk enforcement" campaign on Saturday, June 3rd.
The enforcement campaign, in cooperation with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition, will run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Highway 99E and D Street in Hubbard.
The program will work like this: a decoy police officer and/or citizen will be used as a pedestrian crossing the street at a controlled intersection.
At a controlled intersection the person driving across the crosswalk must give the pedestrian the right-of-way in the lane they are walking, plus six feet on either side of that lane before proceeding through the crosswalk.
The citation for "failing to yield to a Pedestrian in a crosswalk" is $243.
Hubbard police will be video-taping the enforcement action and they will have multiple patrol cars available for traffic stops.
Enforcement action notification signs will be placed along the highway in appropriate locations before the enforcement campaign starts.
