	        <description> Gabriel Walling (1788-1857) is interred in the Amity Pioneer Cemetery which is a registered historic cemetery with the state of Oregon Parks and Recreation Heritage Programs.  

Until recently, Gabriel Walling was not recognized as a veteran of the ‘War of 1812.’

	        <title> Fire Devstates Amity Apartment Building</title> 
	        <description> An apartment fire in Amity Friday night led to the total destruction of a building that has long been a part of this rural town in the Mid-Willamette Valley between Salem and McMinnville.

Local resident Paul Hendrix says a number of people live in the multi-level apartment building but luckily there were no injuries.  The fire destroyed a building containing both apartments and businesses, a spokesperson with the Amity Fire Department told reporters.

	        <description> An Amity-area man died Friday evening at a Portland hospital from injuries sustained in a July 24th crash along Highway 99W near McMinnville. 

On July 24, 2010 at approximately 1:25 p.m. a 2001 Indian motorcycle operated by 45-year old Gilbert Hoakenson, from Amity, was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 41 when it failed to negotiate a left curve. The motorcycle traveled off the highway along a ditch and crashed.

	        <description> Two people died and three others received serious injuries following a Monday evening two-vehicle head-on crash on Lafayette Highway about six miles south of McMinnville. 

At approximately 8:20 PM, a gold 1998 Pontiac sedan driven by 23-year-old Amanda J. McGinnis, from Salem, was northbound on Lafayette Highway near milepost 3 when it veered across the centerline into the southbound lane and hit head-on with a maroon 2004 Hyundai SUV driven by 53-year-old George E. Hatch, from Amity.

	        <description> A Salem-area woman received non-life threatening injuries Tuesday morning after the commercial truck she was driving transporting small cement blocks rolled off Amity-Hopewell Highway about 1/2 mile north of Hopewell. 

The load of cinder blocks spilled off the trailer into a field bordering the highway.

The truck was towing two flatbed semi-trailers loaded with small cinder blocks that spilled onto a bordering field.

	        <title> Amity Woman Stabbed in Her Home</title> 
	        <description> Investigators with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office say a 40 year old Amity woman was stabbed in her home Monday morning. No charges have been filed, but the woman's 14-year old son is being questioned in the matter.

40-year old Jennifer Lin Lumsden of 6165 Yampo Road in rural Yamhill County, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.

	        <title> State Trooper Locates Lost 5-Year Old Kindergartener South of Amity</title> 
	        <description> An Oregon State Police trooper found a lost Amity Elementary kindergarten boy on Highway 99W about one mile south of Amity Wednesday afternoon.  The boy reportedly was trying to walk home after being dropped off at the middle school where it was believed he was to be picked up by a relative.  

Amity School District officials are looking into the incident.
